Jan Johnson (left) and Ray Richardson (right) were the Best of Show winners with this vintage radio style creation --- "The shadow." Jan constructed the cabinet of dyed maple hare wood and Ray made the radio interior by using the parts from a 1934 Westinghouse radio. He constructed a new chassis and interior design. A Zenith motor drive opens the drawer.



First Place Winners



Fred Wuensche won first place in the "Wireless Equipment, pre-1925" category, with this Federal 59 Receiver.

Craig Ball's Kennedy 281 receiver won first in the "Battery Receivers - Regenerative, Reflex, and TRF" category.

Bill Kendrick's 1927 large Kellog A.C. Table Receiver with 401A tubes and Horn Speaker placed first in the "A.C. Table receivers - Wood" category.


David Moore's horn speaker display won first in the "Reproducers and Microphones" category.


Ray Richardson's Stewart 10 Wrist Transistor Radio set placed first in the "Novelty Receivers - Tube and Solid State" category.


PHOTOGRAPH UNAVAILABLE. Ray Richardson's Standard Model "A" wind-up Phonograph won first in the "Vintage Phonographs" category.


Lynn Palmer's Silvertone Model 4569 and Restoration Display placed first in the "Manfacturer's Category - Sears-Silvertone" category. Lynn's radio also won the PEOPLE'S CHOICE and BEST RESTORATION awards.

Alan Douglass's Admiral Transistor Radios in Stores Display placed first in the "Transistor Radios" category.


Marshal Keeling's Homebrew Three-tube set with DeForest tubes placed first in the "Early Home-brew Radios" category.


Jan Johnson's and Ray Richardson's Texas Radio -- The Shadow. Vintage Style Creation won first in the "Replicas and Vintage-Style Creations" category.


PICTURE UNAVAILABLE. Dick Fenner's Last collins (KMW 380) and Last Heathkit Amateur Transceivers won first in the "Amateur Radio" category.


PICTURE UNAVAILABLE. Jim Cranshaw's Western Electric 212E used at WRR in Dallas placed first in the "Vacuum Tubes" category.


PICTURE UNAVAILABLE. Ned Ely's Ericsson Telephone made in Sweden placed first in the "Telephone and Telegraph" category.


John Friesenhahn's Homebrew Vaccuum Tube Tesla Coil won a first in the "Open Display Category." Contest judges (right) test the Tesla coil. From left to right: Durell Roth (partially hidden) David Moore, Ed Janssen, and Lance Borden. Judges not pictured were June Clark, Paul Bigelow and Frank Cooper.


Marshall Keeling's One-Tube Regenerative Replica won the NEW CONTESTANT'S award for best new contestant's entry.
